Ross William Ulbricht is a 34-year old American who was convicted of drug trafficking, money laundering, hacking-related charges and conspiracy to order the murders of six people back in 2015.
The FBI swooped down on Ublricht back in October 1 2013, when according to authorities Ulbricht was caught red-handed acting as administrator to the Silk Road in a San Francisco library, where a female uncover agent snatched his laptop, the FBI searched him, and made the arrest.
The Silk Road was a website that could only be accessed through Tor browsers on the Dark Web. It was a black market Ebay that was used by those seeking the sale or purchase of everything from stolen data to drugs, weapons, and hacking tools.
“The dark web was actually created by the U.S. government to allow spies to exchange information completely anonymously,” according to The Sun.
“The dark web was actually created by the U.S. government to allow spies to exchange information completely anonymously,” according to The Sun.
What is the Silk Road? According ABC.com:
- Website launched in February 2011, became known as ‘eBay for drugs’
- Complex masking and encryption software made it difficult to track users
- Users traded in Bitcoin – an online currency that hides purchasers’ identities
- Vendors would use regular mail to post drugs to buyers
- Drugs like heroin, cocaine and synthetic substances reportedly for sale
- Founder Ross William Ulbricht reportedly operated site from San Francisco
- Ulbricht arrested and site shut down in October 2013
- Ulbricht sentenced to life in prison in May 2015
The US government estimates that between these dates, underground trades conducted through Silk Road generated roughly $183 million in Bitcoin, of which the owner received a commission on sales.
Ulbricht was given two life sentences plus 40 years for operating the Silk Road, which he supposedly created in 2011 and ran until his arrest in 2013.
The court declared him legally a “drug kingpin” because the Federal prosecutors charged Ulbricht under the Continuing Criminal Enterprise Statute, known as the “kingpin statute.”
This charge is meant for the leaders of the world’s biggest drug gangs.
According to prosecutors, Ulbricht took extreme steps to protect the Silk Road by soliciting the murder of several people who posed a threat to it, which included Curtis Green, an elderly Mormon from Utah who was instrumental in helping Ulbricht run the business.
In January 2013, Green signed for a package that contained a kilo of cocaine which was sent by the DEA. When Green took the package into his kitchen, he was promptly arrested by a team of about a dozen agents.
Green was captured by an online undercover agent Special Agent Carl Mark Force IV of the DEA, who set up the package delivery.
Force had been posing undercover as a drug trafficker named “Nob” on the Silk Road; he quickly rose high in the ranks of their operation.
Ulbricht was convicted for listed crimes in 2015, but in the case of the murder-for-hire charge, there is evidence that the murders were carried out in June after Ulbricht could have ordered them, and the charges dropped, but the Supreme Court refused to consider Ulbricht’s appeal to overturn his life sentence.
It turns out Force was corrupt, and sentenced September 2015 (almost the same time as Ulbricht) for six years for lining his pockets with bitcoins and for extorting Ulbricht.
Another corrupt agent was former Secret Service special agent Shaun Bridges; in September 2015 he pleaded guilty to stealing Silk Road bitcoins.
Ulbricht was known by his pseudonym “Dread Pirate Roberts” on the Silk Road, an alias borrowed from a character in the 1987 movie The Princess Bride.
Dread Pirate Roberts was the most dreaded pirate on the high seas of the Dark Web, and the Silk Road was the devil’s playground, and ever drug vendor feared that they could be killed for crossing DPR.
When federal agents arrested Ross William Ulbricht, they announced they’d captured the mastermind behind Silk Road, the Dark Web marketplace that trafficked in millions of dollars in illegal drugs and other illicit transactions.
This is something that I question, given the nature of the case, and that 2 agents have been arrested for corruption.
Though Ulbricht is currently serving two life sentences without a possibility of parole, plus another 40 years, languishing in USP Florence High. Four cement walls in a high-security prison in Colorado isn’t going to keep a super hacker high-profile prisoner quiet. No, Ross found a voice to the outside world through messages relayed by his family members and closest supporters, and posted on Twitter.
Hi, this is Ross! I’m hoping to find my voice here after all these years of silence. It has been a strange journey, but I’m so grateful for all those who’ve shown love and support and held me up through the hard times,” his first message said.
His Mother opened a Twitter account for him in June, and they’ve been posting his tweets ever since. After less than a week on Twitter, and just a handful of tweets, his profile has attracted 13,000 followers.
On July 13, 2018 Ross Ulbricht’s mother created a Change.org petition that asks for the clemency her son. Her argument is Ross had only created a website like eBay, which allowed anyone to list items for sale and the fact that drug lords ended up using the Silk Road does not make the creator responsible, since anyone could sign up and sell anything.
On July 19, Ulbricht made his first tweet since being arrested incarcerated. His Twitter account’s address is @RealRossU.
“It’s coming up on five years that I’ve been in prison though, so I’m hoping this will help me feel more connected to the outside,” he wrote.
Thought of as the pioneer of Bitcoin or crypto currency, another industry leader Erik Voorhees, the CEO of the Shapeshift exchange, also asked his followers to sign the petition in a Tweet.
A few hours later, Litecoin founder Charlie Lee tweeted a link to the petition, mentioning how he first read about Bitcoin in a newspaper article about the Silk Road. It just goes to show that Ross is very influential in the space, and many people who got involved before talks of mainstream adoption emerged owe their choices to the dark web marketplace’s existence.
Satoshi Lite’s post received more reactions than Mr. Voorhees’, and most of them were negative – to the point some people were upset this could negatively influence the price of LTC. Nevertheless, Mr. Lee’s argument was very similar: he agrees with the claims of Ms. Ulbricht, and chooses not to believe in the charges of attempted murder (which were never challenged in court).
At press time, the advocacy of the two crypto heavyweights has helped the petition reach over 22,000 signatures.
How does the Pirate send messages?
Ulbricht makes tweets over the phone to supporters and can even send them using snail mail. The first tweet Ulbricht made was an uploaded hand-written letter to his social media feed as well, as the Free Ross website to prove the account is genuine.
The main purpose of the Twitter account is to promote Ulbricht’s calls for Donald Trump to offer clemency and free him from prison, which he described as ‘my only hope of breathing free air again’.
Say what you will about President Donald J. Trump — his politics, his policies, his business dealings, his personal peccadilloes — the man demonstrated possession of a heart when he commuted the sentence of grandmother Alice Johnson 21 years into her life term for non-violent drug offenses. He’s asked protesting NFL players to send him a list of people who deserve clemency in lieu of continuing to kneel in protest during the national anthem. It’s encouraging to find mercy among his many and varied qualities.
Gab.ai is a platform I personally use to promote my work at Renegade Tribune. On the Gab message forum there are those who see Ulbricht as something of a cultural icon and crusader for free speech in a time in American history where the Bill of Rights is up for grabs.
I don’t want to be the skunk in the garden party, but I feel that Ulbricht is a creation of media (i.e. CIA project Mockingbird) and the woman who claims to be Ross’ mother Lyn is an FBI informant.
That’s right, it is my contention that Ross Ulbricht is a myth, a phantom and spook. Ulbricht, in plain English, never existed! He is a Snowman and a part of the Snowman PsyOps.
What is a Snowman? It is a manufactured person that is simply a creation of the media. A Snowman is built by Big Brother in order to be a symbolic enemy or hero of the people against the perceived oppressive state, but in some cases (like Edward Snowden) the Snowman can be both enemy and hero.
Another function is to leak information from one agency to another without the need of Congressional oversight or other agencies meddling in the scandal.
Hacker tools could have been purchased on the Silk Road and still on the Dark Web a consumer can purchase Stolen Data on Drone technology.
In Ulbricht’s case he was created to trick the masses into thinking a bedroom hacker is the Grand Architect of drugs online. While the whole Ulbricht phenomenon was just theater, he is a scapegoat created for a PsyOps, while the US Government is running the drug market, as not only a way to fund Black Ops with slush funds, but also as a reason for having a huge bureaucracy in place, which includes salaries/jobs for government employees.
I know there is a huge fixation on Ulbricht not getting a fair trial.
Ulbricht’s trial was clearly unfair. His defense team was denied access to information on the state’s investigative methodology and not allowed to present an alternative theory as to the identity of “Dread Pirate Roberts.” They were forbidden to reference the fact that at least two of the federal agents investigating Silk Road (who had access which might have allowed them to fabricate evidence) were themselves caught in corrupt activities and are now in prison. The trial was a railroad job from beginning to end.
In 2008, Ross Ulbricht was a libertarian with an altruistic attitude, who had a dream of getting rich on his way to doing something meaningful with his life. At first, this dream was in the form of a television series The Amazing Race; one summer away from college Ross would film auditions for the show with his sister.
The notorious drug dealer of the Silk Road tried out for the reality show “Amazing Race”? Then afterwards he crafted his radical economic vision for the world and got the idea for the Silk Road. This all raises a conspiratorial antenna with me!
When I read that in the first couple of pages of American Kingpin by Nick Bilton, I almost fell out of my chair.
The Vanity Fair writer Nick Bilton wrote the bible on what is the MSM version of events regarding the rise and fall of the Silk Road founder.
Lyn Ulbricht, the deepstate spook, said about American Kingpin and Bilton that it is a “Media Lynching.”
Bilton conflates Dread Pirate Roberts and Ross. Yet, as Ross’s appeal states on page six, the government did not produce a single witness to authenticate a connection between Ross and any of the communications attributable to DPR.
She also points out that there were crooked investigators:
..in Maryland based on the investigation of ex-DEA agent Carl Mark Force. Force is now in prison for corruption along with ex-NSA/Secret Service agent Shaun Bridges. As computer experts, these two agents had unfettered access to the site and the ability to act as DPR, change evidence, steal money and more.
Bilton wrote the book by reporting only the testimonies and interviews that favor the official side of the story, regardless of the conflicting stories and it leaves out Ulbricht’s defense that he is not the only Dread Pirate Roberts.
I doubt someone like Ross can quickly morph into someone capable of serious criminality and protection without support.
Attorney Joshua Dratel, who is Ulbricht’s attorney, said he “did invent Silk Road” – but Ulbricht was not the person behind the “Dread Pirate Roberts” pseudonym.
Joshua Dratel filed a letter with the US attorney’s office in Maryland, where Ulbricht alleges that the defense team had found separate evidence of another corrupt law enforcement official involved in the Silk Road investigation (two law enforcement agents, a Drug Enforcement Agent and Secret Service agent “broke bad” and were previously convicted for various crimes, including attempting to steal Bitcoin evidence during the investigation), which Bilton fell out of American Kingpin.
“We don’t know when that person or persons originally gained access, or how many times they logged into Silk Road as DPR. We don’t know how many DPRs there were.”
The bulk of Dratel’s letter says that a still-unknown government official sold information about the investigation to Dread Pirate Roberts and later deleted evidence of the arrangement. But the letter—portions of which have been described to Motherboard, but which has not been released publicly—also notes that an unknown person logged into the Dread Pirate Roberts account after its supposed owner was taken into custody.
The importance of the access issue is amplified by the fact that the timestamp for the last log-in by DPR on the SR Forum is November 18, 2013—a full six weeks after Mr. Ulbricht’s arrest,” Lewis told me in an emailed statement. “Thus, obviously someone other than Mr. Ulbricht was continuing to log in to SR as DPR.”
For those preoccupied with Ross not getting a fair trial, his defense team argued that Mark Karpeles, CEO of a failed Bitcoin company Mt. Gox, was the real Silk Road mastermind.
Lyn Ulbricht told “Deep Web”(a film about Ross) director Alex Winter:
..Ross is caught up in the same gears of a machine that [Julian] Assange is caught up in, that Barrett Brown is caught up in, that Jeremy Hammond is caught up in, that Aaron Swartz was caught up in.
Assange doxed Hammond to the FBI and The Intercept turned in Brown; some safety net among fellow “Whistle-blowers.”
The Department of Justice announced last month that Ross Ulbricht’s alleged Chief Operating Officer, known as Roger Thomas Clark and also known as “Variety Jones,” has been extradited to the United States after being in custody in Thailand for more than 2.5 years.
Wired reported on December 4, 2015.
Roger Thomas Clark, a 54-year-old Canadian has been arrested in Thailand through a joint operation of the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and Drug Enforcement Administration and local Thai police.
Exclusive: Our Thai prison interview with the alleged top advisor to Silk Road
Is Roger Thomas Clark really the notorious “Variety Jones”?
Sam Cooley and Akbar Khan – 9/7/2016
In 2013, Ulbricht was captured red-handed in a San Francisco library with his laptop open and logged in to Silk Road—and on that laptop was a photograph of Clark. (To this day, the photograph functions as one of the few public pieces of evidence linking Clark to the “Variety Jones” name.) Also on Ulbricht’s computer was a 2011 journal entry paying tribute to Variety Jones’ influence on Silk Road.
He has helped me better interact with the community around Silk Road, delivering proclamations, handling troublesome characters, running a sale, changing my name, devising rules, and on and on,” Ulbricht wrote. “He also helped me get my head straight regarding legal protection, cover stories, devising a will, finding a successor, and so on. He’s been a real mentor.”
VJ came up with Dread PR name? Interesting. Ulbricht wrote of Jones, also sometimes known as Cimon or the Plural of Mongoose, in a 2011 entry in his journal
This evidence, in part, led investigators to suggest that Clark was in fact Variety Jones and that he had advised Ulbricht “on all aspects of the [Silk Road], including how to maximize profits and use threats of violence to thwart law enforcement,” according to a press release issued after Clark’s arrest in Thailand.
I don’t know what authors Cooley and Khan’s private thoughts are, whether they themselves actually think Roger Thomas Clark is VJ, but I personally feel that the VJ story is just put into play in case the more receptive Silk Road researchers don’t buy the official story that Ulbricht created the Silk Road single-handedly.
Why would VJ be extradited to AMERICA? He is CANADIAN! VJ claims he has explosive evidence on more agents than just Force.
Another Dread Pirate Roberts is DEFCON (according to MSM), who created the Silk Road 2.0, which wasn’t Ulbricht’s site, even by the MSM admission.
The gangsters who ran Silk Road 2.0 are the NSW Syndicate based in Australia, but they are also Israeli citizens (or criminals.)
Not long after suspected drug trafficker Dov Tenenboim named his accomplices in an Australian courtroom, Australia’s Strike Force Bergmark arrested yet another alleged member of the drug trafficking syndicate that had imported more than a million dollars worth of drugs from Europe. The police, in late July, arrested Daniel Sopher—the third member of the darknet drug trafficking group operating out of the Eastern Suburbs.
NSWGreat is figurehead pope of online drug vending. He is internationally wanted and spoke to News.com.au after the Australian police arrested his fellow NSW gang members.
.. continuation of his business by claiming he’s contributing to society, citing the fact that recreational drug users are a large subculture and part of “the Australian way of life”. Whichever way NSWGreat chooses to frame his behaviour, there’s no denying that he’s an internationally wanted fugitive.
Through Reddit and email, he’s received subpoenas from overseas bodies such as Department of Homeland Security, Interpol, Europol, FBI, and the Secret Service. While other dark web dealers have been arrested in recent years, NSWGreat is brazen in his belief he won’t be caught.
“I’m confident in my ability to stay anonymous as NSWGreat.”
Ross’ girlfriend during most of the time he was “running”the dark web site was named Julia, but her last name is not known to many. Her full name is Julia Vie.
Why isn’t this mulatto not locked up, and rather doing model shoots?
Everything else is on the internet about Ross’ life, except Julia. Hmm..
Ulbricht’s sister’s name, profession, and the suburb she lives in Australia is known. On Facebook there are photographs of his parents sipping cocktails in Vietnam. According to Vice “in 2008, Ulbricht was selling his car (a 1990 Honda CRX), that his “likes” vary from drumming to strength training to “anything groovy,” and that one of his favorite movies is The Matrix (no surprises there).”
Julia Tourianski is commonly mistaken as Ross’ girlfriend; she is a Russian-born self described “anti-state propagandist” who has been vocal about her support for Ulbricht.
Both women have been on Infowars.
According to Tourianski, Ross’ Silk Road basically sold vitamins and created a safe environment to use drugs. No, it didn’t, the Silk Road was a honey trap! Users of the site were only incriminating themselves. Tourianski sounds like a Spook!
Julia Tourianski talks to a Bilderberger. How does she get that sort of access?
(Original video taken down.)
Gary Alford, an IRS investigator working with the DEA on the Silk Road case, was credited with figuring out that Ross was Dread PR and that his avatar was called “Frosty.”
Ross’ Avatar was Frosty? Frosty? You’ve got to be kidding me, as in Frosty the Edward Snowden.
December 12, 2012, Ross did a Podcast with his BFF René Pinnell at a Jewish community center (his idols are Murray Rothbard and Ayn Rand who are very Jewish), which covered the NWO, Globalization, Preteen sex life, crazy North Korea drugs (how stupid can Ross be?), and how some of their middle school friends are now Neo-Nazi skinheads.
Ulbricht and Pinnell only had 2 views on YouTube until Gary Alford cracked the case. Plausible? Hell no.
Ross, I am glad your back on Twitter! For one reason only, so you can possibly see this in your feed.
How long until the MSM will declare Ross the kingpin of online drug vending now that he is back on Twitter? And never look at the Deep State as the true owners and occupiers of the black market, which includes online.
Edward Snowden at New Hampshire Liberty Forum, March 2016, suggested that all-powerful and seeing NSA (who knows every citizen’s every move) was involved with Ulbricht’s capture. That begs the question, Snowden, if the NSA has Jehovah powers and sees all, then why did the NSA let Silk Road run for 2 years?
This video on Ross’ account is a song by Young Rival called “Two Reasons.” It’s puzzled me for the past 5 years. Got any theories?
Thank you for reading.
